A pretty, rose cut, cobalt-blue lapis with lots of natural specks of pyrite scattered throughout, is set in an 18k gold bezel with 18k gold balls on either side of the stone. The remainder of the ring, including the 4 mm heavy band, is sterling silver. This long oval stone measures approx. 10 x 15.5 mm and is set perpendicular to the finger. A uniquely cut stone set in a simple, but unusual ring.

It was thought to provide protection to the wearer as well as to shield him or her from negative influences. It was also ground up and used as eye shadow. The best quality lapis, a deep blue without much white calcite, is found in Afghanistan, with other sources in Russia and Chile.***
